League teams at Volleyball Beach are comprised of families, friends, neighbors, and coworkers, including The Fidelity Green Machine. What do these colleagues experience when they get together on the court each week for team-building and fun outside the office?
How many players are on your team?
It’s an open invitation to everyone in the office, so some weeks we have six players; at other times, we have as many as 14. Our skills and athletic abilities vary, but we all have a great experience on the Beach and never feel out of our element.
How long have you played in the league?
Winter Digs II 2024 was our first time playing at Volleyball Beach. We initiated this push to boost and grow the company’s culture outside of the office this past summer. We started with softball, but as the weather got colder, we wanted to find something equally active we could do in the winter that would accommodate a larger group of people. Volleyball Beach’s dome made it the perfect choice.
What has it been like having a work team?
One thing we have noticed is a great boost in camaraderie. Being able to get out of the office and enjoy each other’s company in a laid-back environment has been fantastic. We see that it’s improving morale and allowing people in our company whose paths would not usually cross in the office to meet and form real friendships. Getting to know the people we work with on a more personal level has been great.
How has your experience at the Beach been?
Since we started playing at Volleyball Beach, we have not met a single person who hasn’t been extremely friendly and welcoming. Everyone from the staff to the other players has been so nice and helpful. You can tell everyone is there to have fun.
Any advice for people who are thinking about joining the leagues?
The best advice I can give is to stop thinking about it, and just do it! We found that we really enjoy this, and all we had to do was show up. It’s low-pressure, it’s great exercise, and it’s fun.
