Meet Team Adams!
This seasoned Volleyball Beach team dominates the courts on Friday nights. We talked with team captain, Dawn, to get the inside scoop!
Tell us about your team.
Right now, we’ve got six members along with another couple of players who sub in when one of us can’t make it. The team has really evolved over the seven years I’ve been playing at Volleyball Beach. The team actually started with just me and my five daughters. They’ve since grown up, gotten married, and had kids, so the team has evolved to include other friends, including some we’ve met right here at the Beach!
Were you a volleyball player before joining the league?
When I started playing at Volleyball Beach, I hadn’t played much sand volleyball. I played some volleyball in high school and casually in my 20s, but when I came to Volleyball Beach, that was my first real league experience.
What nights does Team Adams play?
We have always played on Friday nights. That’s what worked best when it was my girls and me on the team, and it continues to be the best night for all of us to play. Getting a spot on Friday night can be tough, so we always make sure to hold on to our spot!
Is your team’s playing style laid-back or more on the competitive side?
I would say it’s a little bit of both! It’s the best of both worlds, which makes it fun for all of us.
What’s your favorite season to play?
For me, definitely summer! When it’s hot out, it’s the best beach vibe.
Does the team do stuff together outside of Volleyball Beach?
Yes! We have become such good friends playing volleyball together, and we have found other things we enjoy doing together, like golfing. On rainout nights, we usually will still get together to go grab a drink or play board games.
What’s a memorable moment you guys have had at the Beach?
The most special nights at Volleyball Beach are when the team is firing on all cylinders and just making some incredible plays out on the court. Those are the best moments, especially when we get to sit down afterwards, have a beer and some food together, and talk about the game.
What would you say is the best thing about Volleyball Beach?
The whole vibe! Everything about it is just a great, fun atmosphere where you can getaway. The people here really make it magical. Everyone is so gracious and welcoming. You can be having a bad day, and when you walk in, all that weight just rolls right off your shoulders. That’s the charm of this place!
What tip would you have for someone wanting to join a league at Volleyball Beach?
It can be difficult to get a spot on a lot of the league nights since it’s become so popular. My advice for anyone wanting to join the action is to come out and play in some weekend tournaments. They provide a great opportunity to play the game and meet new people. Teams have players come and go all the time, and it’s a great way to be invited to join a team. You can even come out and join a pick-up game during the week – even if it is a team of people you have never met before. You’ll be friends in no time!
